to Vote?
If you’re not registered to vote, use Connecticut’s online Voter Registration tool.
How do i know if i am already registered?
Want to check your registration and find out where your polling place is? Use the voter registration lookup tool to see if you are already registered to vote. It will even tell you when your absentee ballot application was processed.
I want to vote from home (Absentee)
If you want to vote from home, you will need to fill out an “absentee ballot application.” This application will be sent to you in the mail for the 2024 election. If you didn’t receive one yet, you can print one off the Secretary of State’s website and mail it to your town Registrar of Voters.

When do I need to be registered to vote?
You must be registered as a voter in the state of Connecticut in order to vote in the November election. If you are voting absentee, you should be registered at least 7 days before the election. The earlier the better to allow yourself time to return your ballot.
What should I expect the first time I vote?
Visit myvote.ct.gov to use the voter registration look up tool and polling place locator to verify that you are registered to vote and you know the location of your polling place. The first time you check-in at your polling place, you will need to present the proper identification to vote.
When should I get my Absentee Ballot Application for the Primaries?
The secretary of the state has mailed out absentee ballot applications to everyone who is a registered voter and affiliated with a political party to vote in the election. You should receive an application in the mail before the end of September.
I Still Have Not Received My Absentee Ballot Application.
Contact your local town registrar and ask them when you should be receiving your absentee ballot application, or if you need to request another one. Click here to find your local town registrar’s contact information.

I Still Want To Go To A Polling Place To Vote.
Polling places will be open. If you decide to vote in-person, you still have rights at the polls. All polling places are to follow a safety plan. If the polling place is not “safe” then the polling place may be closed due to COVID-19 concerns.

Do I Need to Have A Driver’s License to Vote?
No, if you don’t have a Driver’s License you can use any pre-printed form of ID that shows your name and signature, OR name and photograph OR any document with your name and address (i.e. utility bill, paycheck). Use Connecticut’s Vote-Riders Card for reference.
Accepted forms of ID accepted to vote at a polling place:
Social Security Card
Any other pre-printed form of ID that shows your:
Name and address or
name and signature, or
Name and photo.
If you do not have any of the above IDs, you can still vote by signing a State affidavit.
How Can a Homeless person be a Resident of a Town in CT?
Courts have said that an individual is a resident of a town if they have some nexus to that particular town, and there is an intention to return to that town when absent from it. This could be some town that you have spent time in, slept in, and intend to go back to even if you are not presently there.

You have the right to file an official complaint with the State Election Enforcement Commission by calling 866-733-2463 or email elections@CT.Gov. Federal elections occur every two years, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
